Building leaning after fire being torn down

Authorities have begun tearing down the building that is leaning after the chemical fire on 20 September 2019.

MNDF said that work began on the four story building built with a steel frame began this morning at 9 a.m.

The area was evacuated following the fire and MNDF officers have been monitoring the area for potential hazards and begun cleaning with assistance from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The largest fire incident in the capital in recent history took place on Friday night which affected four chemical storehouses and six residential buildings.

Over 400 people were affected in the fire and 46-year-old Aishath Shauna from Thaa Atoll Buruni lost her life in the incident.
