Maldives has won the highest number of awards at the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) held at the Amari Galle Hotel in Sri Lanka on 19 and 20 September.

While the SATA 2019 Awards Gala was held this past Friday night, Maldives have won the highest awards at the awards for the past three consecutive years.

SATA 2019 was officially inaugurated in July 2019 in Sri Lanka. This fourth edition of SATA features over 500 nominees from six destinations and the Maldives won 32 awards including four Visitor’s Choice awards.

Visitor’s Choice awards won by Maldives are:

  • Leading Beach Destination
  • Leading Honeymoon Destination
  • Leading Surf Destination
  • Leading Airport Lounge – Lily Lounge, Velana International Airport

The Visitor’s Choice awards won by the Maldives was accepted by the Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Thoyyib Mohamed.

The Maldives won a total of 32 awards in numerous categories.

A second highest number of awards at SATA 2019 were won by India with 31 awards.

India also won the Visitor’s Choice award for the Leading Heritage Destination. And India City Work won a Special Recognition Award.

The SATA Host this year, Sri Lanka won the third highest number of awards including the Visitor’s Choice award for Sri Lankan Airways.

And the Business Class of Sri Lankan Airlines won the award for the Leading Airline Passenger Class- Business.

The award gala featuring cultural performances by Sri Lanka closed off with fireworks.
