Defense Minister Mariyam Ahmed Didi has revealed that 443 people were affected by the fire that broke out in Male' last night.

Speaking during a press conference, Minister Mariya revealed that 87 people from 13 different families have been provided shelter from the 443 who were affected.

The Minister also added that about 50 people were treated at ADK while another was treated at Senahiya Hospital. None of these people were seriously injured during the devastating fire.

Applauding the hard work of firefighters last night, she also highlighted that the fire was first reported around 7:24pm and that the first firetruck was on the scene by 7:32pm. A total of 12 MNDF vehicles were used in putting out the fire in addition to 150 officers who worked tirelessly in doing so.

A chemical warehouse in H. Thilafushi caught fire first and later spread onto three additional warehouses and six residential buildings eventually taking the life of one woman.
