The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to suspend High Court Judge, Hassan Ali over the abduction and murder of Minivan News Journalist Ahmed Rilwan.

Judge Hassan is currently accused of being part of the plot to arrange a fake document to prove that Rilwan had traveled out of the country, for which he is currently being investigated.

JSC revealed that the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances had formally notified about their investigation into the Judge today, which subsequently triggered the suspension of the judge.

With reference to a police statement given on 24 January 2016 by Judge Ali regarding Rilwan's case, the report on Rilwan's murder states that while he was serving as the Immigration Controller, two police officers from the intelligence unit had met him in an attempt to forge Rilwan's passport.

The report further noted that Judge Ali had responded by saying that it would only be possible upon submitting an official document, to which the officers responded that it would not be possible to do so.

Back in July, JSC also revealed that they were investigating Judge Ali for allegedly campaigning for former President Abdulla Yameen during the Presidential Election in 2018. The commission formed a three member committee to investigate the issue.
