President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today ratified Heritage Act passed at the parliament on 28 August 2019.

The Heritage Act ensures the documentation, preservation and protection of cultural heritage. It will also ascertain the procedures and jurisdictions of the state and individuals and stipulate that acts resulting in the loss of items or sites of historical significance as criminal acts.

The purpose of the Heritage Act is to safeguard the perpetuation of items and sites of historical significance to future generations.

Upon ratification yesterday, the Act has now been published in the government gazette.
