Police expand operation to sea

The police operation on the behest of the Presidential Commission investigating deaths and disappearances have been expanded to the sea as well.

Maldives Police Service said that three houses have been searched today so far as part of the operation and officers are operating at sea as well.

The report on the death of the Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla prepared by the Presidential Commission said that Rilwan was kidnapped into a car, then transferred to a dinghy and taken him out to the sea before being beheaded and thrown into the sea.

As part of the special operation being conducted in Male' and Addu City, police searched seven locations last night including two locations last night in Hulhumale'.

Although police have confirmed that a special operation is ongoing in cooperation with the Presidential Commission, no further details were offered in regards to specifics.

While an arrest was made as part of the operation, police said that details will be offered to the press at a later date.

Police have confirmed that the special operation is connected to the murder of the Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.
