Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that they did not say that the Maldives Police Service is spying on the Speaker of the Parliament, the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed.

MNDF made the statement in response to Nasheed's allegations that they had warned him of Police spying on him.

MNDF detailed that they sometimes work with the Police on providing security to certain personnel as mandated by the law, and such collaborations are done after assessing the current threat a person has. They added that currently they do not believe that the Speaker of Parliament has an additional threat.

However they assured that any actions needed to be taken in order to assure the safety of such a person will be taken if threats come through open sources as well.
