Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla has stated that he will make sure that Maldives Police Service will take all and any necessary actions regarding the case of abducted and murdered Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan.
In a tweet sent out on Saturday, the Home Minister revealed that the case is being investigated by the Presidential Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances. He expressed his beliefs that the President will ensure necessary action through state institutions based on the findings of the commission.
Further, Imran noted that he will make sure that the Police will take any necessary actions regarding the case.
While the Home Minister has made such a statement, the Commission had ordered Police to further investigate the issue where the statement of officer Mohamed Fayaz Ismail was found to have inaccuracies. Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has also requested Police to seek a court order to arrest the two intel officers who allegedly tried to forge Rilwan's passport.
However, Police said in a statement that there was no legal basis to arrest any of the said officers.
