Maldives Parliament on Thursday passed to appoint Ali Hashim as the governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih submitted his name to the Parliament last Wednesday, and was sent to the Committee on Public Finance the following day for research purposes.

Hashim was interviewed by the committee, who then approved his name and sent it to the Parliament floor last Sunday.

55 members voted yes to appoint Hashim as the Governor.

Mr. Hashim had previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2008-2010.

The post of Governor was left vacant after Ahmed Naseer had resigned from the post on July 24.
