Speaker of the Parliament, the former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will be taking action against all the judges mentioned in the report prepared by the Presidential Commission investigation deaths and disappearances on the kidnapping and death of the Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.
Speaking about the report at the parliament today, Nasheed said that the names of the witnesses were not included in the copy of the reports presented by the Commission to him and the leaders of the political parties in the parliament.
However, the JSC has ensured that action will be taken against the judges mentioned in the report.
The Speaker of the Parliament said that the JSC has already started working on taking action and an action is being taken against one judge already.
Meanwhile, the JSC decided yesterday to launch an investigation against the High Court Judge, Hassan Ali.
A statement issued by the JSC said that they have decided to investigate Judge Hassan Ali and the case has been forwarded to a committee formed for investigation. But they did not specify as to why Judge Ali is being investigated.
In reference to a statement given to the Maldives Police Service by Judge Hassan Ali on 24 January 2016 regarding the Rilwan case, the report prepared by the Presidential Commission said that during his time as the Controller of Immigration and Emigration, two police officers approached Hassan Ali to discuss making a passport for Rilwan.
And when the officers told him it was to show that Rilwan had left the country, Hassan Ali asked them to bring an official document or it cannot be done. And the officers told him that an official document cannot be brought.
The report says that following the response, Hassan Ali said that something that looks similar to Rilwan’s real passport could be made if the two officers want.
