Today is the last day of the first sitting of the 19th Parliament making the ongoing 47th session of the parliament the last of the first sitting.

Although the parliament is set to go on recess today, the Speaker of the Parliament, former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed began the session saying that the MPs will be taking a recess in a way that they can resume if an emergency situation arises.

Despite the decision, the National Security Committee will be working. Speaker Nasheed said that there are no objections for other committees to go on recess.

Nasheed said that the National Security Committee will be working on the report prepared by the Presidential Commission investigating deaths and disappearances on the kidnapping of the Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.
