President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with several foreign dignitaries at the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC).

These sessions took place yesterday evening following the inauguration ceremony of the IOC held at Paradise Island Resort where President Solih made opening address.

The President met with dignitaries from ten different countries and discussed issues pertinent to several different important spheres, such as the mounting threats of global warming, radicalization and illegal trafficking.

Foreign dignitaries that the Maldivian President had meetings are the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Shahriar Alam, Minister of Home Affairs, Local Government, Youth, Sports, Culture, and Risk & Disaster Management (Designated Minister) from the Republic of Seychelles, Macsuzy Mondon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius, Nandcoomar Bodha, Minister of State to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bhutan,Tandi Dorji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Toshiko Abe and Joaquim Jose Gusmao Dos Reis Martins, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

The 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) is organized by India Foundation in association with Government of the Maldives and S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore. The theme of IOC 2019 is “Securing the Indian Ocean Region: Traditional and Non-Traditional Challenges”.
