Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that the report prepared by the Presidential Commission investigating deaths and disappearances on the death of the Minivan News journalist, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla, cannot be kept secret anymore.

He made the remark at the opening statement to open debate on the report at the parliament today.

Nasheed noted that the commission’s President Husnu Suood had provided him with a draft copy of the report about a month back. However he had given him the official copy in the presence of the Parliament’s legal counsel and Secretary General yesterday.

Upon inquiring from Suood about what should be done about the report, Suood had requested to hold a debate on the report in the Parliament. Nasheed explained that this was the reason as to why the report was submitted to the Parliament.

Nasheed said that the report will no longer remain a secret, highlighting the fact that some people have been telling him not to disclose the contents of the report. As such a lot of legal professionals including several lawyers had advised him not to do it, though he however said that the details will begin to surface through the trials and other means very soon.
