Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has held discussions with high level officials from Russia, Oman and Nepal on strengthening the ties between the countries.
The discussions were held on the sidelines of the 4th Indian Ocean Conference.
During the meeting with Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, both parties expressed their hopes that Maldives and Oman would continue to further strengthen the existing bonds of bilateral ties, international solidarity and explore cooperation in fields of mutual interest.
During the meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, both Ministers expressed concern on the adverse effects on their countries due to climate change. Minister Shahid also conveyed sincere appreciation to the Government of Nepal, for the valuable contribution to the health sector in the Maldives, especially by offering scholarships and also seats for Maldivian medical students in Nepal.
Minister Shahid was pleased to accept an invitation extended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, to attend the ‘Sustainable Summits Conference’, to be hosted by Nepal in the year 2020.
