The Maldivian government has made arrangements for that Maldivians can get organ transplants in Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the joint press conference held at the President’s Office today, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih thanked the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe for approving the hospitals in Sri Lanka to provide the service to Maldivians.
He also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome Maldivians receive at the Sri Lankan hospitals when they go for medical treatment.
Previously, it was illegal in Sri Lanka to provide organ transplant services to citizens of other countries. Until June 2019, the service was only provided to Sri Lankan nationals.
According to a press release by the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the ministry have been arranging the service to Maldives since June.
