Home Minister Imran Abdulla has said that there are over 300 people in the remand jail without being sentenced.

Answering a question about people remanded without much details about their sentences by MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, Minister Imran revealed that close to 400 such people are currently in remand jail.

The Minister said that the Home Ministry was working to resolve such cases and revealed that the Ministry had met with the Supreme Court and the Criminal Court regarding the matter.

Minister Imran said arrangements are being worked to no longer remand people unless it was absolutely necessary.

He further added that the Home Ministry and Police are ready to provide any assistance required to bring about a permanent solution to these.
