Home Minister, Imran Abdulla has said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has so far released 206 convicts on clemency.

Answering questions about clemency granted by the President, Imran said that these convicts were released between December 18, 2018 and June 20, 2019.

He added that even though the number stood at 206, none of them included criminals convicted on serious charges. As such, clemency has not been granted to those convicted for homosexuality, terrorism, drug trafficking, murder, sexual harassment and other serious crimes.

However, 79 of such criminals have been granted clemency.

Those include drug traffickers, alcohol abusers and thieves as well.
