President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Mr. Ali Hashim, to be confirmed by the Parliament as Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Chief Communications Strategist at the President's Office, Ibrahim Hoodh confirmed the news through a tweet on Wednesday.
Mr. Hashim had previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2008-2010.
The post of Governor was left vacant after Ahmed Naseer had resigned from the post on July 24. In a statement released after his resignation, he explained that he resigned in an attempt to keep his achievements and success intact in the wake of the alleged allegations of corruption against him.
While Naseer has resigned, he has been accused on a number of charges in connection with the MMPRC Corruption Scandal including influencing the work of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to stop the corruption of MMPRC.
Naseer was summoned to the parliament committee for questioning in relation to the MMPRC Scandal as well.
