Finance Minister has submitted a supplementary budget of MVR 1.7 billion to the parliament, on behalf of the state.

The supplementary budget was proposed after the state’s compensatory payments exceeded the contingency allocation. It is intended to ensure the continuance of projects included in the ruling government’s manifesto.

The proposed supplementary budget is MVR 1,703,198,070. The state is seeking a supplementary budget at a time when MVR 30.2 billion had previously been approved as the budget for the year.

The government also revealed that the MVR 30.2 billion state budget for 2019 has not been completely utilized and that only MVR 14.7 billion was utilized so far.

Speaker of the parliament and former president, Mohamed Nasheed has revealed the parliament will make amendments needed to budget and pass it tomorrow night.
