Vice President of MDP, Mohamed Shifaz has said that MDP will lead in the upcoming Local Council Election with a notable difference.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the MDP Councillor's Congress, Shifaz highlighted that even during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen, they were unable to beat MDP at the ballot box for the same election. He added that that even during the hardships and challenges that MDP faced back then, that MDP still came out victorious. As such, he noted that everyone should work towards that same common goal today.

Shifaz also stressed that the current government will not try in anyway to avoid the elections and added that the election will proceed according to the schedule.

He also supported the motion to change any laws that clash with the decentralization act, within six months of putting the act into motion. However he added that those things will only be possible after the coming elections.
