President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Al-Usthaaza Aisha Shujune Mohamed to the bench of Supreme Court and sent the names to the JSC for their opinion.
Article 148 (A) of the Constitution of Maldives states that the President should seek the opinion of the JSC while nominating names to the bench of Supreme Court.
Dr. Azmiralda had previously served as a High Court judge while Shujune had served as a Civil Court judge. The 19th session of the Parliament had previously decided to increase the bench of Supreme Court from four to seven, as it was previously.
The Supreme Court bench currently consists of Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi, Justice Abdulla Areef, Justice Mohamed Abdulla, Justice Abdulla Didi and Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed.
