The motion filed at the parliament to move Aasandha Company, currently under the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), under the wing of the Ministry of Gender and Family has been accepted to the parliament floor.
The government filed the motion, through the MP for Manadhoo constituency, Ahmed Haroon, as an amendment to the Social Health Insurance Act in reference to Article 42.
At the parliament session today, the motion was accepted to the floor with the approval of 65 of the 66 MPs present. The bill has now been sent to the Social Committee of the parliament for review.
Article 42 currently states that NSPA must exist to run a national social health insurance and it will be run under the Minister in charge of the Health Sector.
The amendment in the motion is to change the responsibility of the insurance from the Health Minister to a government institute in charge for social services policy.
