Ministry of Health has said that the purchase and import of medicine and any item with traces of medicine for personal use online and through post is illegal.

In an announcement on Sunday, the Ministry said that only with a valid medical prescription will the purchase and import of medicine and any item with traces of medicine for personal use online and through post be legal. The Ministry added that the purchase of such items online for commercial purposes are also illegal, in addition to resale of such items.

The Ministry went on to state that such medicine are not registered at the Ministry and neither are they checked for safety. Apart from this, some medicine refrain from disclosing all ingredients in them and omit some ingredients from their labels in a bid to deceive customers.

The Ministry further stressed that action will be taken against those who attempt to import medicine without the necessary permits.
