MP for Thimarafushi constituency, Abdulla Riyaz has said that Maldives Police Service was informed on Sunday that a series of gang violence taking place in Thaa Atoll Thimrafushi.

In a tweet he sent out, MP Riyaz said that the public concern regarding the violence has been brought to the attention of the Home Minister, Imran Abdulla and the Vice President, Faisal Naseem.

The violence in Thimarafushi began due to a conflict between two gangs.

Sources have said that series of violence began after things escalated following a "haha" react on a Facebook post.

Police said that a violent confrontation between two gangs in Thimarafushi was reported around 9:11 p.m. on Thursday. They arrested two people of the age of 20 along with a man of 21 years and a man of 23 years of age.
