Six taxi drivers fined for charging higher fares

Maldives Police Service has revealed that they have fined six taxi drivers within the span of three days for charging higher prices than the ones set in the newly implemented Taxi Guideline.

They added that they began a special operation after the Transport Ministry put the new taxi guidelines into effect on August 7.

The six drivers had violated the newly implemented guideline, and was fined during the special operation that Police was carrying out. All of them were fined between August 7 and August 9.

Transport Ministry revealed the new taxi fares on August 1 and put it into effect on August 7. A number of taxi drivers had protested and expressed their dissatisfaction over the newly announced taxi fares.

The Ministry had however said that they will not be bringing any further changes to the taxi fares and noted that they were not that cheap as the drivers were claiming.
