Transport Ministry has decided to begin flights to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, in time for the Eid-Al-Adha celebrations, and have begun the sales of tickets.
In a tweet sent out on Tuesday, the Ministry revealed that flights to Kulhudhuffushi will begin coming Friday. They also added that tickets are now on sale through national airline, Maldivian.
While flight operations to Kulhudhuffushi is set to begin coming Friday, the Civil Aviation had previously expressed their concern that flights may face difficulties in landing at the airport that once was a mangrove, due to the presence of birds in the vicinity.
However the Environment Ministry and Transport Ministry has said that a solution could be brought to birdstrike issues and had said that the number of birds could be reduced.
MVR 5.7 million was set as the budget by the current administration to properly finish the airport project which was initiated by former President Abdulla Yameen's government.
