Taxi Stands are slowly being re-introduced in the capital city in a bid to ease difficulties in hailing taxis on the streets.

Taxi stands were previously introduced to the city in 2014 as well, however it did not work out due to the lack of public support. Back then taxi stands were also set up in major roads of the city as well.

Speaking to One Online, Male City Mayor Shifa Mohamed noted that they have begun placing taxi stands in the city. She revealed that so far stands have been set up in three areas. One of these are near MMA in Boduthakurufaanu Magu while two have been placed in Shaheed Abdulla Zuhair Magu.

She noted that such stands are to be introduced in seven more areas.

Explaining the move to introduce taxi stands, Shifa noted that taxi stands will make it easier for passengers to board taxis through these boards and contributes towards easing up traffic overall in generally congested areas. She also added that the stands will be monitored and awareness about it will be raised to make better use of them.

While the council has introduced taxi stands in the city once again, they are currently running a program to facilitate extra parking zones in Male’.
