Criminal Court has set a remand duration of 15 days for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, who was caught while trying to escape to India in an attempt to seek political asylum.
The decision to remand him for 15 days was made after he was presented to the court, after being caught fleeing the country at a time when the Supreme Court had withheld his passport.
Adeeb was brought back to the Maldives by a team of Maldivian security personnel last night after he was detained by Indian Authorities at the Tuticorin Port in India last Thursday.
Adeeb was also presented to the court for a remand hearing last night, however they had ordered police to release Adeeb on the grounds that he was arrested in violation to international laws. He was then taken to his residence.
However, he was once again arrested shortly afterwards and taken to Dhoonidhoo. He was arrested for a second time under a new court order.
