Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been brought back to the Maldives in the MNDF Coast Guard vessel 'Huravee'.

Adeeb was stopped by intelligence agency officials from entering India via a ship located off the coast of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu last Thursday. During the time of his attempted escape, his passport was withheld by the Supreme Court over an ongoing case.

A team of international lawyers hired by Adeeb later revealed that he was seeking political asylum in India because he feared for his life if he stayed back in the Maldives.

However, Indian authorities have since denied Adeeb entry into India, and has handed him over to a team of Maldivian security personnel.

Sources claim that Adeeb is being brought back to the Maldives in MNDF Coast Guard vessel, 'Huravee'. A tracking website placed the vessel in Tuticorin yesterday, and currently places it near Kaafu Atoll Thulusdhoo.

At the time of press, it is unclear whether he will be taken directly to Dhoonidhoo or not.

MNDF Spokesperson was not available for a comment to clarify further details.
