Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided that they cannot advise to increase the judges bench of a superior court for ongoing cases.

JSC had looked into whether it was legally possible for the commission to add more than one judge to the bench of a case that a superior court is investigating.

The Maldives Courts Act notes that only a Chief Judge of a superior court is able to add one or more judges to the bench of a case that is being overseen by a superior court.

Hence, the commission decided that it was not within their purview to make such a decision or advise on it.
