MP for Kimbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz has congratulated the newly elected member representing lawyers on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Abdul Maaniu Hussain.

In a tweet sent out this morning, MP Riyaz said that he hopes Maaniu would put for the nation first in building a judicial system that is independent and fair to the Maldivian people and it’s investors.

Maaniu won the JSC election yesterday with 50.13 percent of votes defeating with four other candidates. While 1,487 lawyers are eligible to vote in the JSC election, only 404 lawyers voted in the election.

The position in the JSC was previously held by lawyer Latheefa Qasim who was elected in November 2014.
