President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he would not allow the ownership of even a small piece of land to fall into foreign hands for a temporary benefit.
In his Independence Day address, President Solih said that money and goods cannot value the sanctity of the Maldivian islands.
He said that the the true purpose of the Independence Day should be gain economic independence and success in all aspects of development and progress. The President said that there is a lot to be done for development and no matter how tempting it is, Maldivian lands should not be sold off for a financial gain.
President Solih said that his administration will work towards empowering the public as they are the true heroes that are keeping the nation as an independent entity.
And said that the Maldives is a country that build and maintain foreign relations with numerous countries and work to develop them. But the highest goal of that endeavor is to protect Maldivian interests.
Further, President Solih said that the Maldivian Foreign Policy is based on protecting human rights, upholding the values of democracy, create awareness on climate change and protecting the environment.
