President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he does not believe the Maldives should have even a moment without basic rights and the independence as a nation.

In his official Independence Day address, President Solih said that independence symbolizes the individual humanity of every person and it is a human right at the highest level. President said that it is a honor of birth that every human possesses and should not be taken away even for a moment.

The President said that it is the responsibility of every citizen to create a society where anything can be achieved under the shade of the Islamic faith and the Maldivian law.

President Solih said that it is very important to look where the independence was yesterday and how we use our independence today and where it would land tomorrow as we celebrate our independence. And while political independence have never been fully lost since it was acquired, President said that individual freedoms were compromised in the past few years which has raised concern in the public.
