The gathering hosted by First Couple, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed on the occasion of Independence Day has officially begun at the Dharubaaruge Convention Center.

A number of people are in attendance, on a personal invitation extended by the first couple. These include various chief staff of state companies, government employees as well as foreign dignitaries.

A meeting with said people is currently ongoing, where the first couple are extending the best wishes of the occasion.

Maldives is celebrating it's 54th year of Independence this year, after having gained it back from the British on July 26th, 1965.

Several activities have been planned for July 26, 27 and 28 on the occasion of the independence day.
