A man has been arrested in Laamu Atoll for the alleged sexual abuse of a ten year old.

According to Maldives Police Service, a 51 year old man was arrested around 6:30pm on Wednesday under a court order. The man is alleged of having sexually assaulted a ten year old in an island in Laamu Atoll.

The case was initially reported to the Police on Tuesday. No further details of the case were made public since it is currently under investigation.

Child sexual abuse cases have been on the rise lately.
