The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a resolution to Parliament calling for a public vote on the proposed Maldives Waterfront and Marina project in Rasmalé, developed by UAE-based Eagle Hills.
MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Nazil said the resolution was submitted two days ago, following a decision by the party’s National Council to seek public opinion on the project.
Nazil expressed hope that the resolution would proceed in Parliament but noted that recent changes to parliamentary rules could make it difficult to secure a vote to debate the proposal.
The MDP National Council has also approved plans for direct action if the Government fails to respond to its call for a public vote by 15 November.
