Mohamed Saeed has ended a 35-hour protest outside the Henveiru Police Station after receiving assurances from the authorities that action would be taken to address his concerns about a man allegedly causing disturbances in his neighbourhood.
In a Facebook post, Saeed said he decided to end the protest following assurances from Home Minister Ali Ihusaan that the matter would be addressed. He thanked the minister and said he would closely monitor progress on the commitments made.
Saeed began protesting at 8 am on Saturday, claiming that Ahmed Fairish had been causing disturbances in the Kashimaa Hingun and Dhoohimeri Magu area for around 1.5 years. He alleged that the man had harassed residents and pedestrians, obstructed traffic and thrown objects and liquids at people.
The Home Minister said Fairish had been taken into police custody and that the case was being investigated. He noted that legal and procedural challenges had complicated previous efforts to resolve the matter.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Shiyam said complaints had previously been lodged against Fairish, adding that police would work to address the difficulties faced by Saeed and his family.
