Swim Maldives has launched the first event of the “SME Digital Odin Rashah” open water swimming series, sponsored by SME Digital.
The inaugural event was held in Vilimalé on 3 October, with 25 teams and 50 individual swimmers taking part. All available places were filled within 24 hours of registration opening.
The event features a 500-metre swim starting from a boat positioned offshore and ending at the island’s shoreline.
Swim Maldives said the series aims to connect younger generations with the Maldives’ traditional relationship with the sea and island life.
SME Digital said its participation is aimed at strengthening connections between communities across the country, while supporting local businesses and economic activity through such events.
The second event in the series is scheduled to take place in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, on 27 November. Fifty individual swimmers have already registered for the event.
