Maldivian surfer Yasin Ahmed Nashid has advanced to the third round of the men’s shortboard event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Yasin secured second place in his second-round heat today with a score of 8.13, defeating Afghanistan’s Afridun Amu, who scored 2.14.

He will face China’s Xindong Wu in the third round tomorrow in Heat 3.

Yasin, who turned 15 this year, has won three events on the national surfing circuit. He won the Open and Junior categories of last year’s Rannamaari Challenge and also claimed the Junior League title.

He also won the men’s Open categories at the first Surf League event held in Fuvahmulah City, the Mulikohu Raalu Gande event in Muli, and the Kerandu event in Maabaidhoo.

Another Maldivian, Kayan Abdullah Arif (Kaiputee), was eliminated in the second round of the men’s shortboard event after scoring 5.67 against Thailand’s Natthakorn Sai, who advanced with 11.20.

In the women’s event, Maldivian surfers Mariyam Raahil Naseem (Ayaa) and Shiran Aiminath Tasneem were also eliminated in the second round. Shiran scored 1.30 against Malaysia’s Mona Rashia, who scored 2.60.

Ayaa faced South Korea’s Nala Lee in her second-round heat.
