Health Minister Geela Ali has stated that there are currently no active measles cases in the Maldives and that the situation regarding the disease is completely under control.

Speaking on the "Ahaashe Bunaanan" program broadcast by Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu last night, Minister Geela noted that measles is a disease that has been eliminated from the Maldives. However, whenever cases are detected due to individuals arriving from abroad, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) consistently takes appropriate measures in accordance with established procedures.

The Minister stated that following the detection of measles cases in May of this year, the total number of infected individuals has reached 282 to date.

"It is believed that these recent cases also originated from individuals arriving in the Maldives or through our travel back and forth abroad," the Minister said.

The Minister further stated that since the emergence of measles cases in May, over 16,000 people have been vaccinated through ongoing vaccination campaigns.

The Maldives was officially certified as a measles-free country by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017.
