Maldives Customs Service has seized more than 3.3kg of suspected cannabis being smuggled into the Maldives through Velana International Airport.

Customs said the seized substance weighed 3,345 grammes in total.

The drugs were discovered while inspecting the luggage of two Indian passengers who arrived in the Maldives from India on Tuesday. Customs said the luggage was searched after officers suspected it contained concealed drugs.

Both individuals involved in the case are Indian nationals.
