Maldives has officially submitted the bid to host Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023 in the island nation.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof submitted the official bid to host the games in the country, during a ceremony held this morning in Mauritius. In addition to the Maldives, Madagascar and Comoros submitted bids to host the games in 2023.
Submitting the bid on behalf of Maldives, Minister Mahloof highlighted that the IOIG was the first international tournament that the Maldives had took part in. He added that the first international goal scored during a football game by the Maldives was also during IOIG. He went on to note that the games were connected to the hearts of Maldivians young and old.
Minister Mahloof stressed that it has been 40 years since the Maldives has been crossing oceans just to take part in the games, and added that not a year has gone by without our participation. Adding on to this point, Minister Mahloof stressed that this was the reason why Maldives should be chosen as the country to host these games next.
