The Government is working to develop two multi-storey car parks in Malé to ease parking congestion, Economic Development, Transport and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has said.

Speaking at a press conference today, Minister Saeed said efforts are under way to hand over the development of a car park on the Hiynamey plot to a private party, with an agreement expected within the coming week.

He said construction of another car park on the plot next to MNU on Sosun Magu is also expected to begin soon, with completion targeted for November next year.

The Government plans to develop seven parking buildings across Greater Malé, including Hulhumalé and Vilimalé. The facilities are expected to provide more than 2,600 spaces for four-wheeled vehicles and 1,000 spaces for two-wheelers.

Minister Saeed said parking fees at the facilities will be kept low to ensure they remain affordable for the public.
