The Government has decided to establish a modern traffic monitoring centre to oversee traffic across Malé in real time, Economic Development, Transport and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has said.

Speaking at a press conference today, Minister Saeed said the initiative is part of measures under the new Road Transport Act to make roads safer and more accessible for motorists and pedestrians.

He said Malé will be designated as a vehicle registration control zone to help address the capital’s traffic congestion.

The planned traffic centre will enable authorities to monitor individual roads in real time and manage traffic using modern technology, with the police maintaining full control over traffic management.

Minister Saeed said establishing the centre is one of the Government’s key priorities under the new law.
