The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) recovered MVR 3.48 billion in outstanding tax and non-tax revenue during the first six months of the year.

Of the total, MVR 2.09 billion was recovered in the first quarter, while MVR 1.39 billion was collected during the second quarter.

The largest amount, MVR 2.39 billion, was recovered through dunning and notices issued to parties with outstanding payments. A further MVR 861.19 million was collected through dues clearance, while MVR 192.38 million was recovered through telephone and email reminders.

MIRA also recovered MVR 14.54 million through bank account freezes and MVR 21.45 million through other enforcement measures.

During the period, MIRA issued final notices to 20,499 parties for failing to submit tax returns and notices to 12,362 parties over unpaid taxes.

The authority also completed 73 audits, resulting in an additional MVR 92.27 million in tax assessments.

MIRA conducted 2,612 compliance visits during the first half of the year as part of efforts to ensure taxpayers comply with tax laws and regulations.
