The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has extended the deadline for applicants under the Government’s “Housing for All” policy to correct discrepancies in their applications from seven days to 21 days.

The Ministry said applicants will have 21 days to provide accurate information and submit supporting documents through the Housing Portal if discrepancies are identified in their applications.

Applications for which the identified issues are not addressed within the 21-day period will be considered incomplete or ineligible.

The Ministry has also reiterated that applicants must respond to queries regarding their applications exclusively through the Housing Portal. Responses submitted by email, letters or any other means will not be accepted at this stage.

A total of 58,505 applications have been submitted for flats and plots under the “Housing for All” policy. This includes 35,930 applications for flats and 22,575 applications for plots.

The Government is currently verifying the applications.

The latest figures represent the highest number of applications received for a government housing scheme in the Maldives. Previous schemes, including the “Gedhoruveriya” and “Binveriya” schemes introduced under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, received more than 40,000 applications.

Under the “Family Housing” programme announced in January, the Government has allocated 7,900 flats and 15,000 plots. Of the flats, 4,000 are allocated for residents of Malé, 1,500 for people living in Malé who are not registered residents of the capital, and 2,400 for designated special categories.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the Government aims to provide 25,000 plots from reclaimed land to address the country’s housing shortage, with 15,000 plots to be allocated in the first phase.

The President has also said applications for flats and plots will be thoroughly verified before the final lists are announced, with the process being carried out according to established criteria and without undue influence.
