A 36-year-old American man has been remanded in custody for 10 days after he was arrested at Velana International Airport with a magazine containing ammunition in his luggage.

Police said the man, identified as Cobol Britain Tyler, arrived in the Maldives yesterday. During a luggage check at the airport, officers found a loaded magazine in his baggage.

He was arrested under a court order, and the court granted police a further 10 days to conduct their investigation.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
