State revenue and grants reached MVR 27.1 billion as of 13 August 2026, marking a 10.4 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.
The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises latest Weekly Fiscal Developments report shows revenue increased by MVR 2.6 billion from MVR 24.6 billion in 2025, driven largely by higher tax collections, particularly Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST).
Tax revenue rose by 11.9 per cent to MVR 21.1 billion, up from MVR 18.8 billion last year. TGST collections reached MVR 7.2 billion, while total GST revenue increased by 7.9 per cent to MVR 10.7 billion.
Business Profit Tax revenue increased from MVR 4.5 billion to MVR 5.4 billion, while import duty collections rose to MVR 2.1 billion.
Non-tax revenue increased by 1.9 per cent to MVR 5.6 billion, while grants rose by 90.1 per cent from MVR 242.1 million to MVR 460.4 million.
State expenditure also increased, reaching MVR 28.1 billion as of 13 August, up 19.3 per cent from MVR 23.5 billion during the same period last year.
Recurrent expenditure rose to MVR 24.5 billion, with spending on subsidies increasing by 78.4 per cent to MVR 3.5 billion.
The overall state budget recorded a deficit of MVR 950.3 million, while the primary balance stood at a surplus of MVR 2.4 billion.
