The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has said efforts are underway to clear the land needed to begin construction of the Malé Market Complex within a month.
The MVR 117 million project was awarded to Trusten Maldives Private Limited in March 2019, but construction was delayed over the handover of the required land.
The ministry said the land issue has now been resolved and existing market stalls will be vacated to make way for a temporary market.
The six-storey complex will have 85,000 square feet of space and include basement parking, a fish market and a three-storey section for agricultural products.
Plans also include a rooftop food court, five lifts and a five-tonne ice machine. The project is expected to be completed within two years.
