India has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the “Vision Document” agreed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives G. Balasubramanian made the remarks in an interview with Maldives Independent on the occasion of India’s Independence Day.

He said bilateral ties are expanding across political, economic, digital, energy, and civil and military sectors.

Balasubramanian highlighted plans to establish a Maldivian consulate in Bengaluru and an Indian consulate in Addu City, agreed upon by the two governments to strengthen people-to-people ties.

He also said India provides training opportunities to more than 1,600 Maldivian civil and military personnel every year.

The High Commissioner highlighted efforts to strengthen maritime and air connectivity, including services at Hanimaadhoo International Airport and cargo operations by the Shipping Corporation of India.

Looking ahead, he said the Vision Document would guide greater cooperation in science and technology, renewable energy and digital financial systems.

He described India and the Maldives as two countries sharing the same ocean and longstanding economic and cultural ties.
